I was born in New York City way back in 1972. I can’t believe I’m 41 years old! I’m an eclectic mix of French, Dutch, German, Cuban, Spaniard, Caribbean Indian, African American, Japanese, and Indonesian descent. But to simplify things I tend to go with Cuban & Dutch. When I was 5 & 6 I lived in Holland for 18 months. While I was there I learned to speak Dutch, German and French but forgot English. When I moved back to the US I had to relearn English. So, English is my 1st and 5th language.
In 1979/80 I lived in Los Angeles for 18 months. I don’t remember liking it that much. Well, I liked Bob’s Big Boy Burgers and the palm trees. While living in LA I visited a mall for the first time. Mom and I moved back to New York City where in the 3rd and 4th grade I attended a Catholic boarding school in New Jersey called Sacred Heart. From 5th through 8th grades mom and I lived in the Bronx and I attended Our Lady of Angels; another Catholic school. I loved that place! Sadly both of these schools are no more.
In the summer of 1986 mom and I moved to Rochester, Minnesota. I went to Kellogg Jr. High School for a year before going to John Marshall Sr. High School from 1987 – 1990. Due to various issues, I became a high school dropout. I didn’t earn my diploma until 2008; one year after I earned my MBA.
From 1987 until 2001 I worked a variety of odd jobs; mostly in fast food but also factory, telemarketing and healthcare. I was always without direction, looking to find my place.
In 2000 after spending six months back in New York City I decided to come back to Rochester and go to school. I had gone to school previously at Rochester Community and Technical College. In fact I had maxed out the number of credits I could take at the college and still receive financial aid. So I looked at a new school. I enrolled in Cardinal Stritch University to restart my academic career. The rest is history.
So far in my collegiate career I’ve attended Rochester Community and Technical College, Cardinal Stritch University, Augsburg College, University of Minnesota _ Rochester, St. Mary’s University and Winona State University.
I struggle with self-esteem and self-confidence. I have been bullied.
